What to look for around your home
Most home and business owners are unsure of what to look for when it comes to termite infestations. Wood rot often gets mistaken for termite damage. Dirt found in the wood or protruding from cracks in the wood is often an indication of the presence of termites, and cream-colored insects inside of the wood are a clear indication of active infestations.
Another sign of active termite infestations is swarming reproductives. These occur in the springtime, usually after a warm rain. They are small, black insects with wings that fall off shortly after they swarm. They can number in the hundreds and are usually found around the windows as they become attracted to the light and try to get outside. Because they look different from the workers and soldiers they are often confused with winged ants.
